Social Media Marketing is all about community management. As your community grows, you’re bound to run into a problem from time to time. We just discussed the idea of tagging someone on Facebook that didn’t want to be tagged.
I get asked all the time, “what if someone says something on my Facebook fan page that I don’t like or that says something bad about me?” That’s a great question that has several answers that we’ll discuss a different day. But today, we’re going to assume the worst and that it’s time for them to be shown the door.
Banning someone is easy.
Step one: If they’ve made a comment that is offensive, uses foul language or is a personal attack, you can report them right from the comment area. When you click on the report link, you’ll be asked if you want to ban them permanently from the page. Just click yes and you’re done.
Step two: If you don’t want to report them, but you just want to ban them, then it could be a little more difficult for you, depending on how many fans you have. You’ll have to “view all” your fans, scroll to the fan in question and click on the X to the right of their name and image. If you have a gazillion fans, this could take a while. When you click the X, you’ll be prompted that “You are attempting to remove John Smith from this Page. Are you sure you want to remove John Smith?” with a check box to “Ban permanently”. If you click yes, then you’re done. John’s gone for good.
That’s it! Tomorrow we’re going to discuss the way some fans are, give some examples of seemingly derogatory behavior and some recommendations on what to do about it.
